I'm a big fan of magpies and the crow family in general. Much folklore and many myths surround the magpie, more so than many other birds. They are message carriers from the spirit world, they are notorious thieves of pretty, shiny things, they have their own rhyme that has many regional variations. they are seen as rogues in the bird world. Intelligent, able to recognise their own reflection, which is a rarity in the animal kingdom, they are subject to suspicion and sometimes known in a group collective as a mischief of magpies . I worked for several years for a company called Magpie, I identified with the label. This is an acrylic painting on wooden board. Approx. 60cms diam
