I was thinking about the horror of war and how as we go back into the past of my grandfather and great grandfathers generation how unprotected soldiers were on the battlefield. I imagine myself in that situation, I was lucky to not have to go to war and I count myself lucky to have been refused entry to the military when I applied to get in when I was 18, had I been accepted things may have panned out differently. Soldiers are brave, I admire their bravery, in war they skirt the edge of death, life is uncertain and I imagine that the temporary nature of living must be felt raw and fully at the surface of  soldiers' being.
